I got my headshot updated and it was fun!

I am a low-key type of gal who likes to be on the side of the camera not being photographed.  My happy place is being involved with shoots where I have done the makeup and helped with wardrobe, then find myself in the midst of the shoot fixing hair placement, tucking in tags and reminding clients to take off those little black hair bands around their wrists while reminding them how cute they look so their images turn out just perfect.  So, what do I do when it’s time for me to update my portrait? I get anxious; without fail, every. single. time!  What will I wear, how am I going to do my hair and makeup (Will I even be able to do my own hair?), what overall feel do I want; all the things everyone thinks of times 10000 since I know I should know all of these answers.

I have worked with Studio B since 2010!  Yes, 13 + years!  They have seen me pre married life, pre babies, pre official Sweet P Beauty (when I was just makeup by Tiffany) and cheered me on the whole way.  Brooke, Erin, and Makayla have a permeant place in my heart, and I feel super comfortable with them while working.  Put me In FRONT of a camera though, and I instantly forget all that comfort; including how to pose and how to look happy.  Seriously, I am not a natural in front of the camera typically.

When I am at Studio B, the girls put me back in my comfort zone within minutes and this is the end result.  I don’t know if it is the beautiful studio, or how they find the perfect light, or if they just have a magic lens, but they make me look like I know what I am doing.  In fact, after all these years, I’ve seen Studio B do hundreds (maybe more) of headshots of professionals, seniors portraits, and family photos that are so spot on.  The consistency of their work is mind blowing.  It’s not just one image you fall in love with, it’s ALL the images in your gallery that you fall in love with.  It’s hard to find one photo to use constantly to represent my brand in my gallery every time we do a shoot.  Professionals of all industries, seniors, families, and groups, they all turn out AMAZING.  They make their clients feel awesome and they know a whole lot about what they are doing technically so what else would you expect other than perfection?!  Trust me when I say there is a difference between a good headshot and a great headshot.  You need a GREAT headshot in your life to represent you and your brand, ESPECIALLY right now when everyone is home doing online research vs. seeing you in person.

So let’s talk about the importance of an updated headshot.  My last headshot from 2017 still looks like me and fits my brand, so why did I need a refresh?  Because my clients and future clients need to see an updated version of me.  Just like we evolve as professionals, our brand needs to evolve too.  My store got updated shelving and signage this year, so why not update my image and refresh my headshot?  It is the first thing people see when they google me, the image they see when I speak at an event (if we ever get back to those), the image they see when I write an article, or am a guest on a podcast.  A headshot is an investment in your brand, and it is worth every penny if you go to the right place.  The photographer should be able to put you so much at ease and take such an effortless image where the person looking at the end result didn’t know you were anything but feeling yourself at that exact moment.  Of course, professional hair and makeup are part of that end result too so don’t forget to add that!

Like anything important in life, especially in the artistic world, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!  I’ve seen it a thousand times after doing makeup on a client, then seeing the end result.  I’ve seen trades with friends who picked up the “hobby”, neighbors who photograph on the side, stay at home moms who needed something new to do and so much more.  Just like with makeup, anyone can pick up a camera and call themselves a “photographer”.  Not to say those individuals are not talented because with my 14+ years in this industry, I have seen so much talent.  I have seen people go from a side hustle to a full-time career as a photographer, but it is not 100% of the time.  Use those connections for the kids fall pictures outside, or the family pics for holiday cards, but not the image to represent your brand.  There is just something to be said about going to a professional studio where the photographer does this specific thing for a living (cough cough, same with makeup ;)).  For an updated professional headshot representing you, your brand and anything else you use this image for, it’s worth the investment to feel so satisfied with what you are putting out to the world.  You owe it to yourself to go to a pro who will knock it out of the park and give you an amazing and luxury experience!  Think of it as part of the self-care we all keep talking about doing!

XOXO,
Tiffany P
