Sugaring + Waxing Frequently asked questions.
What is the difference between wax + sugar?
Traditional waxing can be done with hard or soft wax. It is applied in the same direction as the hair growth and removed in the opposite direction. We prefer brow waxes with wax!
Sugaring paste is most often made with sugarcane, lemon juice (citric acid), + water. Hello all-natural product! It’s applied to the skin at room temperature (or slightly warmer). Sugar paste is applied against the direction of hair growth, molded to the skin to ensure every hair is covered, then removed in the same direction of hair growth to avoid breakage.
Can I get sugared or waxed while on my period?
Yes, as long as you’re wearing a tampon. You may be more sensitive to hair removal during this time but no need to reschedule your service.
Does my hair need to be a certain length?
We ask that your hair is at least a 1/4 of an inch (or length of a grain of rice) before your service. Typically, this is about two + weeks of no shaving. If you shave too close to your appointment or your hair isn’t long enough the wax or sugar won’t be able to grip onto the hair and do it’s job. If you do shave too soon to your appointment or don’t have long enough hair, we may have to reschedule your appointment to a later date. Our appointment policy does still apply.
Does it hurt?
Well… pulling hair out of the follicle (the hole that the hair lives in) will not feel pleasant. Try not to overthink this part though. Pain is individualized to each person + each person feels different about it. Mind over matter, right?!? Hair is removed in small sections which keeps the pain to a minimum. Our expert estheticians are trained to know just how to hold the skin + apply the product to makes your service go smooth. We have thought through every detail of your experience to make your service as easy as possible.
A couple of tips to keep in mind:
We know we live in the land of coffee, but too much caffeine right before your service can make you a tad jumpier or sensitive.
You may be a little more sensitive right before or during your period or if pregnant.
Arrive well-rested + hydrated.
Do I need to trim?
Trimming is always appreciated but not required. We do not want the hair too short so if you are not familiar with the length it should be, go ahead + leave it.
Do you double dip the wax?
This is such an important question to ask anyone who waxes ANY area of skin! NEVER ever EVER do we double dip!
What kind of wax do you use?
We use both hard + soft depending on our esthetician’s professional recommendation at the time of the service. There are many different types, brands, + colors of wax. Some we are familiar with + some we are not, but we do use a professional-grade wax we are comfortable using.
What is the difference between hard wax + soft wax?
Soft wax is warm + is removed with a pellon strip. It’s applied in the direction of the hair growth. Soft wax is more effective for finer or softer hair. Hard wax starts out warm, then cools + hardens, trapping the hair in the wax. It’s removed without the use of a strip and is typically most effective for corse hair.
How long do the results last?
Everyone and every place on the body is different, but generally in the 2-5 week range. Unlike shaving; waxing + sugaring removes the hair from the root or hair follicle. The now-empty follicle will have to reproduce a root in order for a new hair to grow back. It takes about one week for the follicle to go through this process. Once the root is produced, the hair will then start to grow. You should be hair-free for at least 7-10 days but everyone’s growth cycle is different. Week two, hair will start to grow + by weeks four to five, your hair will be long enough to be removed. At weeks four to five, you should only have about 30% of your hair back which will be finer, thinner, + more sparse. This will be a quicker + overall easier appointment.
When should I rebook my hair removal service?
We recommend maintenance every four to five weeks. We do offer a maintenance discount for brazilians.
Will my hair grow back slower?
Yes! If you are consistent with your hair removal appointments, your hair will start to grow back thinner + slower. When removing the hair bulb from the hair follicle, eventually the follicle may become damaged enough the hair will not grow back. Ever wonder why brows from the early 2000’s feel like they never came back? We plucked too much for too long and the damaged hair follicle stopped being active with hair growth.
Should I apply anything after my hair removal service?
No. It’s best to leave the area alone unless we recommend something. Typically, the skin should return to normal within a couple of hours. Keep in mind redness and bumps are normal for up to 48 hours depending on your skin and its sensitivity. We offer a vajacacial and underarm treatment service to assist with ingrowns and skin texture after a brazillian and underarm hair removal services which our clients LOVE!
